Hash Generator

Generate hashes and HMACs — computed entirely in your browser.

100% client-side — nothing you process is ever uploaded

Generate MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, and SHA-512 hashes of any text, or compute an HMAC digest for signing API requests and verifying webhooks — using the browser's built-in Web Crypto API wherever possible.

How to use this tool

  1. 1Type or paste any text into the box.
  2. 2MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, and SHA-512 hashes are computed automatically as you type.
  3. 3Click any hash to copy it to your clipboard.

Frequently asked questions

Which hash algorithm should I use?

For checksums or verifying file integrity, SHA-256 is the current standard. MD5 and SHA-1 are fast but considered cryptographically broken — fine for non-security checks (like detecting accidental corruption) but not for anything security-sensitive.

Why does the same input always give the same hash?

That's how hash functions work by design — they're deterministic. The same input always produces the same output, which is what makes hashes useful for verifying two files or strings are identical.

Can I reverse a hash back to the original text?

No. Hashing is one-way by design. You can only compare a new hash against a known one to check if the underlying data matches.

Is the text I hash sent anywhere?

No — MD5 is computed with a local JavaScript implementation and SHA-1/256/512 use your browser's built-in Web Crypto API. Everything runs in your browser tab.
